Winter (November-March)
Winters in Minnesota can be down right cold, sometimes dipping into the sub-zero temperatures. Lately the area has been seeing snow in February and March, instead of November and December. Not to worry though, it is quite easy to enjoy the season. Clothing musts are boots, a good insulated jacket, hats, gloves, and scarves. One common courtesy to remember when visiting neighbors or viewing homes for sale is to take off your shoes at the door. It keeps from tracking dirt all over your hosts floors!
Driving in winter is not troublesome once you get the hang of it. Remember that just because you own an SUV does not mean you are immune from accidents. Snow can be easy to navigate in a four wheel drive, but "black" ice can get you every time. Commute times can be extended during a snow storm, but driving slowly and cautiously will get you home safely. Outfitting your vehicle with an ice scraper, jumper cables, emergency kit, blankets, flashlights, and water are just a few items that might help should you find yourself in an accident.
